Basic Job Functions:
The Level 1 Process Control Engineer is responsible for automation systems, including design, upgrades, programming, and improvements. This role leads projects from selection through final testing and acceptance, collaborates closely with Maintenance and Operations teams to provide technical expertise, and assists in developing maintenance teams and optimizing operations. Schedule flexibility is required, including working on weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and both scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
The Level 1 distinction is in reference to the automation system architecture (See ISA-95 or Purdue hierarchy of control) and is not indicative of seniority or degree of responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in electrical/electronic engineering degree fields or equivalent experience
- Two years of experience in industrial process control/automation
- Steel Mill experience- Melting, Casting, Rolling, Coating
- Project management and commissioning experience
- Experience with Level 1 control systems (PLCs, HMIs, motor drives, hydraulic controls)
- Rockwell Automation Suite, Siemens Technologies, TMEIC, and other automation programs
- Experience with industrial communication networks
