This position is responsible for the operation of water treatment and distribution systems. Job responsibilities involve the maintenance and repair of the treatment equipment. Water Treatment Operators also perform field sampling and testing to determine the required water quality parameters and utilize their knowledge to adjust the chemical feeds as needed. This role is a part of the Technical Talent Pool in the Career Framework.
Essential Functions
- Monitors all operational issues and report any malfunctions.
- Assists in the installation of water treatment facility and analyze equipment requirements for chemical laboratory.
- Performs regular laboratory testing and analytical work on the treated water to ensure target levels are being met.
- Perform regular maintenance checks on chemical feed systems and alarm signals on computer control system.
- Monitors inventory and labor allotment through computerized maintenance and management system.
- Monitors and interprets all charts and graphs for test results and monitor treatment process of all water plants according to quality standards.
- Analyzes reports and communicates poor quality results to officers.
- Maintains and updates accurate records for treatment process and prepare log deliveries for same.
- Works with chemical suppliers to ensure chemical offloading is complete and any issues resolved immediately.
- Ensures compliance with all Federal and State regulations.
- Provides effective communication with support staff and managers.
- Must be comfortable working outside, near the water and around wildlife.
- Performs additional duties as directed.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years of directly related experience in installation, repair, and maintenance of industrial equipment or in water treatment.
- Current OSHA 10 or greater certification is preferred.
- Forklift certification required.
- Basic computer competency with Microsoft Office Products.
- Must work efficiently and capably with minimal supervision.
