Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Assistant - Courier.
In this role, the successful candidate Performs transportation of Anatomic and Clinical specimens delivery and distribution of mail, packages within the institutional campus at theHospital from one area to another and all off-sites. Responsible for scheduled and unscheduled STAT courier services includes Frozen Section, GI, Endoscopy, ASU, Mini-Surgery, EHS, Admitting, Central Processing, Blood Bank, laboratories, outpatient transfusion and faculty practices.
Job Responsibilities:
- Maintains communication with the -Anatomic Office to enable prompt response to special, unplanned requests for urgent messenger services from departments.
- Releases bodies from morgue in accordance with policy as required. Recognizes unacceptable specimens and take appropriate action. Reports any discrepancies with Morgue Log Book to Associate Director.
- Prioritizes work and supports co-workers in the accomplishment of day to day activities and tasks in an efficient manner. Trains courier staff.
- Follows OSHA regs for PPE (Personnel Protective Equipment) and all safety procedures related to hazardous or potentially contaminated reagents or specimens when in contact with blood and body fluids. Recognizes unsafe working conditions and takes correction action.
- Assists with specimen accessioning and filing of Histologic blocks, pathology slides, and maintains supplies as needed. Assists accessioning clerk with requisitions, etc. Verifies and logs specimen prior to specimen delivery.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Performs daily rounds of hospital properties transporting articles, mail, packages, frozen specimen section containers, and other materials from one area to another as per policy. Transports specimens to outreach areas (Perinatal, Cytogenetics, etc.). Adheres to scheduled delivery, collection of specimens and requisitions in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School or GED. 1 2 years Prior work related experience. Ability to read, write and speak English. Basic computer skills.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $42,075.15 - $46,360.38 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
