What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Law Paralegal position at O’Connor Family Law?
Hello! It’s Us You’re Looking For -
We’re not your average law firm. At O’Connor Family Law, we’re fighters, strategists, advocates. We focus in divorce, custody, and high-conflict family law, and we’re extremely passionate about what we do, which is helping our clients work toward better futures. Our clients are navigating some of the most challenging moments of their lives, and we show up with compassion, excellence, and a relentless drive to help them emerge stronger than they started.
If you thrive in high-stakes environments, like to laugh while getting serious work done, and take pride in being the behind-the-scenes powerhouse that holds it all together (as well as tell the attorneys what they need to do), you might just be our next rockstar paralegal.
What You'll Be Doing
Let’s be real; This job is for someone who knows family law inside and out already. We need a legal unicorn who can hit the ground running with minimal hand-holding. You'll be a key part of our litigation team, helping to ensure that every client receives excellent, efficient, and emotionally intelligent legal service.
Responsibilities include:
· Drafting complaints, motions, discovery requests/responses, financial statements, and parenting plans, discovery – you name it, you’re going to have the chance to draft it!
· Managing client case files, timelines, and deadlines
· Ensuring cases proceed efficiently
· Communicating empathetically with clients, courts, and opposing counsel
· Reviewing and organizing financial documents, GAL reports, and DCF records
· Preparing cases for hearings and trials—including exhibit binders, timelines, and witness coordination
· Supporting attorneys during litigation prep and managing post-judgment follow-up
· Keeping our lawyers sane (okay, that part’s unofficial…but appreciated)
You Might Be the One If You:
· Have at least 3 years of experience as a paralegal in divorce and custody law (Massachusetts procedural experience strongly preferred)
· Know your way around the Probate and Family Court better than some judges’ clerks
· Understand how to draft clean, clear legal documents and aren’t afraid of a tight deadline
· Are fiercely organized, unshakably reliable, and take ownership of your work
· Can juggle multiple cases without dropping the ball (or the coffee)
· Communicate like a pro (or maybe like a coach) with clients, team members, and courts
· Have empathy, boundaries, and a solid sense of humor
· Don’t need micromanagement; You’re self-motivated, resourceful, and proactive
