Job Description
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead/participate in the development, implementation, and sustainment of Manufacturing Fundamentals for the Forehearth operations discipline.
- Provides technical assistance on a diverse range of parameters in the refiners, forehearths and feeders.
- Makes inspections of the refiners, forehearths and feeders and the associated refractory equipment.
- When necessary, Concentrates efforts on lines with poorest quality and production globally.
- Supports and leads global technical advancement initiatives.
- Actively participates on the Forehearth Global Technical Networks and take the lead role in those events, maintaining basic interaction to foster best practice and learning’s sharing with the Discipline Network Leaders (DNLs)
- Provide regional project support as a way to develop talent on the Forehearth discipline.
- Works closely with Forming and Furnace department, recommending changes in operational setups.
- Provides mentoring and training of junior team members as well as plant personnel in glass conditioning and glass quality troubleshooting aspects related to the forehearth operations.
- Facilitate and lead glass conditioning setups for job improvement.
- Keeps abreast of current trends in technology and processes to ensure an efficient operation
- Ensures correct use of safety equipment and that company safety and health policies are followed.
- Ensure all project output data is comprehensive, accurate and available to incorporate into the Global Manufacturing Excellence portfolio and governance processes.
- Participate and support best cost design developments, improvements or opportunities
- Lead design work related to new working end layouts and equipment for major repairs and/or upgrades to licensee, JV and OI plants. Support on-site activities as required, attending project meetings.
SCOPE AND IMPACT
The Global Manufacturing Excellence (GME) Forehearth Operations Engineer will be responsible for providing technical leadership on glass conditioning and forehearth operations process support as part of the GME projects. The candidate will be working independently and as part of larger teams. Projects might include leading commissioning/startup of new lines or furnaces, process trials as well as technical leadership to improve performance on low performing lines/jobs and any other projects assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate Degree or higher in Mechanical, Ceramics, Chemical or Industrial Engineering. Required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Forehearth, Forming or Furnace operations. Required.
- Production Supervisor / Line Leader / Job Change Coordinator / Batch & Furnace Supervisor. Desired.
- Proficient in English language. Required.
- Lean Six Sigma (LSS) certification. Desired.
- MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) skills. Required.
