Maintenance Worker Seasonal

NOW HIRING:

The Seasonal Maintenance Worker performs a variety of hands-on tasks. This is a part-time, seasonal position with scheduled hours of 6:30 am – 3:00 pm Monday-Friday.  Includes some evenings, weekends, and holidays.

ABOUT US: The Oak Lawn Park District, incorporated in 1944, has a long and proud history of serving the recreational needs of our 56,000 residents with a myriad of recreational programs and services. We operate under the state tax cap as a municipal corporation, meaning we are our own taxing body. Overseen by a Board of five elected officials, the District manages a combination of 34 parks and facilities which cover over 280 acres. In addition, we manage a Special Recreation Cooperative that offers recreational programs and services to individuals with disabilities in 9 municipalities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
• Graduate of a standard senior high school course or currently attending school; or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Skills including, but not limited to, good safety awareness; basic skill in the use and care of tools, materials and equipment; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to carry out work assignments with little or no supervision; ability to perform required duties with initiative, good judgment, accuracy, courtesy; good physical condition.
• Must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:

Superintendent of Parks and Planning

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Trims, mows and edges grass in parks.
• Picks up garbage and empties garbage cans in parks.
• Assists with preparation of ballfields.
• Assists with layout of all athletic fields.
• Assists with general park maintenance.
• Assists with set-up, take-down, and clean-up for special events.
• Operates small power tools as required.
• Plants and weeds landscape areas.
• Paints and makes simple repairs to equipment.
• Possesses a current driver’s license.
• Assists in keeping maintenance facility and vehicles clean and organized.
• Submits daily reports of work performed.
• Works Park District 4th of July event(s).
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

 MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

• Does general work around the shop as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Removes snow and debris from park walks, drives, and lots.
• Obey and enforce the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the safety program that is pertinent to the activities conducted by the department.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and listen.
• Must be able to work closely with co-workers and the general public.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
