What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Housing Assistant position at Oberlin?
The Summer Housing Assistant (HA) will work under the day-to-day supervision of the Lead Housing Assitant, Assistant Director of Conference Services and Director of Conference Services. The HA will be involved in servicing the housing and facility needs of conference groups, and summer residents.
Responsibilities
General
- Attend all staff meetings and training sessions as set forth by the supervisor(s).
- Answer phones, emails and submit work orders when necessary.
- Participate in the locking and unlocking of college facilities.
Conference Services Interactions
- Perform check-ins for conference guests (distribute keys, prepare and process check-in forms, etc.).
- Perform checkouts for conference guests (collect key cards and linen, process paperwork, complete inventories of linen, damages, etc.).
- Assist conference groups throughout their conference stay and at various conference activities.
- Anticipate conference guest needs and problems and take appropriate action.
- Enter and read detailed activity reports in the StarRez Conference Database throughout each work shift.
- Serve in the on-call rotation that includes responding to client needs after hours.
- Prepare residence halls for summer conferences (distribution of pillows, blankets, phones, linen exchanges, test keys and key cards etc…).
- Set-up and breakdown classrooms, offices, etc… before and after a group uses the space.
- Prepare residence halls for the academic year at the end of the conference season.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Summer Resident Interactions
- Correspond with residents on a routine basis in regards to facilities, on-campus resources, and involvement in the Oberlin Community
- Facilitate a community that is conducive to living, sleeping, and studying through enforcement of community guidelines and student code of conduct.
Qualifications
Compensation
- Compensation is $13.00 per hour.
- Room is provided from May 27th through August 11. Live-in status is required.
- A meal plan is provided when the dining hall is open.
Special Instructions to Applicants
- Period of employment is May 28 through August 11
- Training will be scheduled May 28th-30th.
- The work week will vary from 20 to 30 hours per week, with opportunities for overtime (sometimes required).
- Work hours are based on the needs of the week. Traditionally hours will be 9:00 AM- Noon and 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. With flex on hours to cover weekend outgoing and incoming camps/conferences.
- No other on campus jobs can be held concurrently with this position between June 1- August 7.
- Daily staff meetings are scheduled for 9:00am (monday thru friday) and are mandatory.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
- Preference for students who have a Valid Driver’s License but not required.
