Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. is currently looking for a Plant Engineering and Technical Services Manager to join our team supporting manufacturing operations. This 300,000 square foot plant has (4) production lines and is capable of producing up to 40 million cases per year. This volume represents more than 45% of Ocean Spray’s North American volume and is operated with a workforce of approximately 190 employees.
Position Summary:
The Plant Engineering & Technical Services Manager is a key member of the plant SLT as well as the Ocean Spray Engineering community. The incumbent supports and promotes safety, quality and food safety, regulatory compliance, and effective team development through performance management processes.
The Plant Engineering & Technical Services Manager is responsible for all aspects of engineering and technical services for the plant, including controls and systems integration, facilities and infrastructure, project management, and maintenance. The incumbent leads and manages long-term technical capability in new and existing technology and technical systems as well as managing organizational capability to sustain technical competence. The incumbent provides leadership and technical expertise across the capital project process from research and development activities through selection, purchase, and installation of new equipment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead plant engineering and maintenance teams in a 24/7 factory to deliver equipment reliability in order to provide a safe work environment where the factory can achieve good quality cases at plant OEE targets at the targeted cost per case.
Serve as a Change Agent responsible for elevating staff members' capabilities for the benefit of the organization.
Engage in the typical responsibilities of a manager requiring budgeting, planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and delegating.
Execute factory manufacturing line rebuild schedule in order to meet factory OEE targets
Drive key initiatives throughout the facility in the areas of fixed asset management, plant layout & flow manufacturing, line constraint optimization, FDA/GMP/AIB/SQF compliance, safety, and automation
Financial responsibility for project management along with maintenance, repair, and overhaul budgets.
Ensure plant technical team engages in Root Cause Corrective Actions/Break Down Analysis as necessary to solve complex issues.
Utilize, manage, and communicate maintenance KPI’s to the department and the rest of the organization and use data to make sound decisions to improve factory performance.
Execution of the Maintenance Master Plan
Escalate and bring in outside support when needed to solve technical issues in order to minimize factory downtime.
Ensure maintenance and engineering and work to consistently support operations, drive an environment where everyone owns the plant results.
Serve as a key member of the plant leadership team in developing the plant’s long-range plan, establishing priorities, and allocating resources as necessary.
Responsible for continuous improvement initiatives plans that feature both short and long-term improvements, with and without capital investment.
Oversee the development, management, and execution of the plant’s long- range capital plan. Ensure projects are evaluated for ROI, Maintenance CapEx needs, prioritized, prepared for submittal to corporate, and executed within budget.
Accountability Level:
This is a staff-level manager typically responsible for 5-10 salaried direct reports. This role has responsibility for all direct reports including high-level involvement relative to hire, fire, and discipline decisions as well as performance development. This role makes recommendations and decisions based on analysis of marketplace technology and manufacturing trends. Errors in decision-making could impact the ability to meet production requirements and result in financial loss to the company. Interacts with corporate, vendors, other peers, and managers within the facility and network.
Education/Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Business, or applicable field. Master’s degree a plus
Supervisory experience is a must
8-10 years progressive experience in manufacturing engineering/maintenance, with at least 3 years in a management role
Extensive knowledge of operations from a technical perspective.
High-level management and business skills, extensive financial knowledge base as well as an understanding of employment policies/procedures.
Organizational, interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
Able to influence and impact all levels in the Cooperative organization
