What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher Assistant position at Ogden Weber Community Action Partnership, Inc.?

SUMMARY OF POSITION: According to Head Start guidelines and definitions, plan and implement comprehensive, age-appropriate curriculum by providing various materials, activities, and experiences that support a broad range of children’s prior experiences, maturation rates, styles of learning, developmental abilities, needs, cultures, and interests. Assist children in gaining the skills and confidence necessary to be prepared to succeed in their present environment and with later responsibilities in school and life. Embrace the role of the parent as the primary educator of the child and promote and support attachment between parent and child.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Education

a) Assist in the education of children through implementation of Head Start Performance Standards and School Readiness Act of 2007

b) Implement approved curriculums

c) Individualize for each child through ongoing observations and data collection

d) Plan; assist with implementation and evaluate daily, developmentally appropriate activities

e) Provide quality teacher-child interactions and work on building trust relationships with all assigned children.

f) Support in the achievement to meet minimum CLASS thresholds as indicated in the 1307 Head Start Standard

  • Working with Families

a) Set up, prepare and assist with home visits and parent-teacher conferences

b) Build quality teacher-parent relationships. Involve parents in curriculum planning and classroom volunteering. Provide information and problem solve to address needs of families

c) Use and embrace families culture, ethnicity, background and composition

d) Work with all Team Members to support families in requirements of program.

  • Health

a) Complete speech, developmental and behavioral screenings within 45 days of child’s entry

b) Complete speech, developmental, behavioral or other health referrals as needed, attend IEP meetings, and implement IEP’s for children with diagnosed disabilities. Work with inter-disciplinary team

c) Use developmentally appropriate behavior guidance and classroom management skills. Work with inter-disciplinary team

d) Conduct family-style meal and snack times and ensure compliance with Head Start standards; USDA/CACFP, Child Care Licensing, Caring for our Children National Standards

  • Safety

a) Support in arrangement of classroom to provide safe, developmentally appropriate use; care for and maintain appearance and cleanliness of classroom

b) Assess each child’s health status. Care for health and safety of children as established by the Head Start Standards; Child Care Licensing, Caring for our Children National Standards

c) Ensure child safety by never leaving them alone. Follow Active Supervision at all times.

d) Provide guidance and training for substitutes, new-hires and volunteers

e) Support teacher’s role as leader of classroom team. Participate as a member of the classroom team. Communicate with team members to ensure functions of the classroom are met.

  • Provide professional and accurate documentation
  • Support the achievement of in-kind goals
  • Participate in all professional development activities
  • Attend assigned meetings
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Principles of child growth and development, early childhood education and family support

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· High school diploma or equivalent

· Must be able to obtain child development associate (CDA) within two (2) years of hire and retain certification thereafter or be enrolled in CDA courses after hire

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.00 - $14.46 per hour
