Job Description Summary
This is a unique role requiring critical care or emergency department experience (3-5 years minimum). Prioritization and ability to triage/assimilate patient information quickly is essential in our fast past, high volume department. Computer skills and basic computer troubleshooting is required to be successful. Capacity to communicate clearly and manage stressful situations involving critically ill patients with life threatening emergencies is also essential for every team member.
Transfer Center Nurse role: 24/7 department that requires weekends and holiday rotation. TCRN triages calls from sending providers/facilities that desire to send patient to an OhioHealth (OH) facility often due to limited resources available from sending facility. Obtain essential report items, contacting appropriate receiving OH hospital, and accepting/consulting providers/physicians utilizing resources and protocols. Communication skills are vital to ensure patients are receiving quality efficient care. Requires multi-tasking several cases at a time while providing quick acceptance, timely follow-up with sending and receiving teams, and setting up appropriate transportation (for OH to OH facilities) based on urgency of transfer. Organization skills and ability to focus is required to follow similar but varying processes for each of our facilities and the service lines at each hospital. The Transfer Center team also manages the bedding of patients in several OH hospitals and is a role that is added to the associate’s responsibilities after an appropriate foundation is established as a Transfer Center RN. Types of cases frequently managed by team: Stroke Alerts, STEMI Alerts, Trauma Alerts, Cardiac Arrests, Critical limbs, OB/GYN emergencies, etc.
