A professional position requiring a high degree of self-motivation and independent judgment; involves direct interaction with representatives of the development community and in advanced/comprehensive planning where an area of specialization is performed. Work is performed under the direction of and general supervision of the Community Development and Planning Director.
Responsibilities:
1. Researches tasks (land development application for current planning/special activity for advanced planning) with the expression of the results in a written document (staff report).
2. Conducts meetings with applicants, development and construction professionals, and citizen groups as the situation warrants.
3. Conducts site visits.
4. Completes processing of assigned task from in-take or initiation to drafting or resulting development order; includes status reports/letters, client interaction, presentations to boards and citizen committees.
5. Prepares written documentation for Commission actions.
6. Provides technical review of planning or land use activities in areas of zoning, site plan, landscaping, architecture, historic preservation, neighborhood planning, an element of the Comprehensive Plan or similar areas of expertise.
7. Provides technical reviews of applications for building/construction permits, including zoning, future land use, flood zone and addressing.
8. Researches, prepares and updates elements of the Comprehensive Plan, researches and prepares amendments to the Comprehensive Plan, prepares Evaluation and Appraisal Reports.
9. Makes presentations before formal boards and committees and may be responsible for coordination of all activities of such a board or committee.
10. Researches and prepares amendments to the Land Development Regulations.
11. Performs special studies on a specific subject which includes formulation of the task, setting forth a work program, seeking necessary resources, working with citizen and staff advisory groups, preparation of final reports and formal presentation of findings.
12. Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from a computer.

Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in planning or a closely related field with some experience in planning, preferably in a public agency.
A.I.C.P. Certification is desired.
