Job Summary: | This position is assigned to the Molecular Diagnostics section at OADDL. The primary responsibilities of this position are to prepare and process animal tissues, fluids, bacterial/fungal cultures, and other clinical specimens for DNA/RNA extraction; conduct routine molecular biology techniques, assist in writing and implementing new SOPs, test validation, and maintenance of equipment; assist in maintaining the molecular diagnostics laboratory and all storage areas in a clean and orderly state; and other duties as assigned. Occasional weekend and holiday work will be assigned. Rabies immunization is required and will be provided. Occasional unpleasant odors from animal tissues and diagnostic specimens. Ability to operate in fast-paced, high-throughput environment with repetitive pipetting tasks. Occasional holiday and weekend work. Handling of chemicals, handling of animal tissues, biological/zoonotic agents (including but not limited to viral and bacterial, fugal, and protozoal organisms), and use of electrical equipment. Rabies vaccination or proof of adequate titer required. Repetitive pipetting tasks. |

Position Qualifications: | Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Biochemistry or related field Understanding of molecular techniques such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and nucleic acid extraction through laboratory coursework or working in a diagnostic or research laboratory Working knowledge and proficiency in molecular techniques; specifically, RNA/DNA extractions, PCR analysis, plasmid cloning vector systems, molecular assay development, use of gel electrophoresis, and trouble-shooting. Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and proficiency in general use of laboratory equipment are required.Preferred Qualifications: Experience with PCR and working with nucleic acids.
