Essential Functions*:
- Conduct Qualitative and Quantitative Chemical and Metallurgical Duties as assigned.
- Analyze samples by wet chemistry methods and laboratory instruments including HPLC, GC, FTIR, ICP, IC, UV/Vis, TGA, DSC.
- Prepare metallurgical samples by appropriate procedures.
- Conduct metallurgical analysis by ASTM methods for hardness, grain size, plating thickness, tension strength, and other metallurgical methods as required.
- Work includes safe analysis and measurement of flammable, caustic, acidic, energetic, and pyrotechnic materials.
- Review, update, and maintain laboratory procedures.
- Prepare and organize samples for analysis.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Conduct experiments, record procedures, and document results.
- Perform quality control checks and report deviations.
- Follow safety protocols and dispose of hazardous waste properly.
- Maintain an inventory of chemicals and laboratory supplies.
- Collaborate with team members and researchers.
- Communicate effectively with scientists, engineers, and laboratory staff.
- Propose and implement solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Position Requirements*:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's* or Bachelor’s Degree* in metallurgical, chemistry, chemical technology preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in a laboratory setting.
- Minimum of 5 years of familiarity with Chemical / Metallurgical laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Prefer experience in the use of and having a working knowledge of a Scanning Electron Microscope/EDAX.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures.
- Position requires obtaining a Government Driver’s License for use at Lake City AAP.
- This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls if required.
- This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
- This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies.
