Qualifications :
- High School Graduate or GED
- CRCST, CIS, CER or CHL certification required
Other Qualifications :
- Minimum of three (3) years hospital experience in sterile processing with a minimum of one (1) year supervisory or lead experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prefer knowledge of medical terminology, prefer experience and knowledge in surgical instrument handling and processing as well as endoscope reprocessing and high-level disinfecting
- Demonstrated understanding of sterilization and high-level disinfecting principles required
- Sterile processing certification preferred, if not, must agree to obtain certification in sterile process management within 1 year of hire
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate with a variety of healthcare professionals
Job Responsibilities :
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of sterile processing procedures, products and equipment used in a surgical and endoscopy setting (i.
e., AORN Standards, AAMI Standards, and SGNA Guidelines)
- Demonstrate all aspects of instrumentation decontamination including sorting disassembly / reassembly, manual and mechanical cleaning, microbicidal processes, equipment operation, and standard / transmission-based precautions
- Interviews, orients, assigns work schedules, evaluates and disciplines directly-reporting sterile processing personnel to manage performance under the direct guidance of the Nurse Manager
- Ensures facility sterile processing staff needs are adequately covered to meet daily workload
- Oversee and maintain instrument tracking system
- Support clinic practices by maintaining all instrument inventory, this includes the ordering and re-ordering of instruments
- Provides supervision of sterile processing staff and all those entering into the department to ensure compliance and sterile processing etiquette is being maintained
- Ensures staff comply with all manufacturer instructions for use (IFU) when reprocessing instrumentation
