Steel Detailer

Olson Steel is a leading steel erection and fabrication company who has been servicing the construction industry for over 60 years.  We are currently seeking a Detailer/Checker to join our team in San Leandro, CA. Detailers are responsible for modeling, producing shop drawings, erection drawings, and checking work.  

**This position requires physical presence in our San Leandro office - this is not a telecommuting role.

Essential Duties

1. Detail drawings within budgeted manhours.
2. Check drawings within budgeted manhours prior to submitting for approval.
3. Able to read and understand Architectural and Structural design drawings.
4. Drafting plans, elevations and details of structural building components.
5. Coordination with contractors and installers in the field.
6. Review structural and architectural drawings and specifications for conflicts/questions.
7. Miscellaneous steel detailing -- stairs, ladders and railings
8. Structural steel detailing is also required
9. Work with Project Management to create RFIs.
10. Checking contract documents, RFI's, specifications, etc. to ensure drawings are accurate
11. Checking addenda’s and new information for any changes to your assigned work
12. Adhere to applicable building codes and company design standards.
13. Review and revise drawings based on engineering calculations, architect's notes and instruction, and field conditions.
14. Release completed drawing packages to the shop for fabrication along with required CNC files.
15. Assist fabricators with questions, as necessary.
16. Revise drawings as directed through accepted bulletins and contract changes.

Education

Minimum requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent, related job experience preferred.

Preferred: BA or AA degree or completion of a technical trade school in Computer Aided Drafting or related field. 

Requirements/Desired Skills

3-5 years of Tekla Structures experience.  Knowledge of the construction / steel industry preferred.  Have knowledge of steel construction and AWS.  Must be a meticulous and detail-oriented person who strives for perfection in everything they do.  Good communication skills are necessary and the ability to work efficiently is a must.  Have effective written and oral communication skills.  Ability to read instructions and numbers and write legibly.  Familiar with AutoCAD or Revit and Advance Steel is a plus.  A positive attitude is necessary.
