What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodial Operations Supervisor position at OMSI - Oregon Museum of Science & Industry?

The Custodial Operations Supervisor supports the Custodial staff, as well as provides exceptional service to elevate OMSI guest and staff experience. Main responsibilities include ensuring best practices, efficiency, and safety concerns are met. The Custodial Operations Supervisor reports to the Custodial Assistant Manager, as well as assists the Custodial Operations Manager in daily operational matters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operational Standards:
    • Performs general custodial services, utilizing best practice for safety, efficiency, and environmental concerns;
    • Ensures proper sanitary conditions and good appearance, including cleaning and stocking restrooms on a regular basis;
    • Responsible for waste disposal throughout the OMSI campus, including interior and exterior spaces;
    • Maintains deep cleaning routine, including utilizing heavy equipment and machinery on a routine basis to ensure sanitary standards are met;
    • Generates nightly log on a daily basis for Custodial management team;
    • Communicates inventory and supply orders to Custodial Operations Manager and other Facilities management;
    • Places work orders on behalf of Custodial team to ensure maintenance of resources at OMSI;
    • Acts as a point of contact for maintenance troubleshooting during after hours;
    • Remains knowledgeable of and supports guest safety and protocols (e.g. lost children, fire alarms), including acting quickly and effectively in case of emergency in compliance with relevant Emergency Action Plan (EAP) procedures.
  • Supervises the Custodial I positions, and interfaces with non-OMSI personnel. Tasks include-but are not limited to-the following:
    • Conducts onboarding and provides ongoing training and mentorship to Custodial staff on safety protocols, guidelines, and expectations under the guidance of the Facilities Leadership team;
    • Oversees team efficiency, identifying areas for improvement and performance opportunities;
    • Manages staff lunch and break schedules, and provides coverage as needed;
    • Ensures compliance with OMSI, facilities, and custodial safety procedures and policies;
    • Ensures staff coverage by stepping in as needed, including other duties assigned by Facilities management.

Working Conditions:

  • This position is exempt, paid salaried;
  • This position is regular full-time scheduled for 40 hours/week;
    • Requires working onsite at the museum location;
    • Scheduled to work Thursday-Sunday from 12:00-10:30pm. Schedule expectations can be discussed with the Custodial Assistant Manager to provide flexibility and address museum needs;
    • Requires working on weekends, holidays, special events, and/or evenings as scheduled.
  • Physical Demands: 5% sitting, 75% standing, 20% lifting/carrying/pushing 25 lbs;
    • Ability to push or pull carts and other equipment up to 200
  • Vision Demands include:
    • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches of less)
    • Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left or right while eyes are fixed on a given point)
    • Depth and perception (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distance and spatial relationships)
    • Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eyes to bring an object into sharp focus)
    • Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more)
  • Environmental Demands include:
    • Wet or humid conditions (non-weather)
    • Extreme heat (non-weather)
    • Outdoor weather conditions
    • Work near moving mechanical parts
    • Work in high, precarious places
    • Fumes or airborne particles
    • Toxic or caustic chemicals
    • Risk of electric shock
  • Noise Levels include:
    • Quiet (examples: library, private office)
    • Moderate (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic)
    • Loud (examples: metal can manufacturing department, large earth-moving equipment)

REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to model and support a positive team dynamic with paid and unpaid staff.
  • Custodial Skills
    • Working knowledge of the proper methods, techniques, materials, disinfectants, tools and equipment used in modern custodial work;
    • Working knowledge with operating and maintaining custodial equipment;
    • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve custodial-related issues;
    • Ability to learn and follow safety and protocol regulations.

PREFERENCES:

  • Proficient or native fluency in a non-English priority language in Oregon.

Education & Work Experiences:

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prior commercial custodial experience;
  • Minimum 6 months experience directly supervising staff.
