Histotech - PRN
Shift: Need to work 2 - 8 hour shifts per month
The shift can start between 5:00 AM - 7:00 AM
FUNCTION: Preparation of tissue for examination by pathologist.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Receives specimens from endoscopy center.
2. Mounts, stains, and examines specimens. Assesses quality of material for adequacy of specimen.
3. Completes specimen control log completely and accurately.
4. Performs quality control checks of instruments, solutions and test results against established standards. Checks expiration dates of products and chemicals monthly.
5. Checks laboratory supplies. Cleans equipment and work areas. Disposes of contaminated material.
6. Prepares reports and maintains files and records according to guidelines of regulatory agencies.
7. Maintains strict confidentiality in accordance with regulatory guidelines and the specific policies of the One GI.
8. Can look up information in PM software.
9. Successfully completes all One GI training requirements (i.e. OSHA, HIPAA, Healthstream, compliance, etc.)
10. Responsible for compliance with all regulatory requirements and/or guidelines. These requirements/guidelines include, but are not limited to: AAAHC standards, CLIA, Medicare and state specific standards, OSHA, HIPAA, Federal Fraud and Abuse laws.
11. Conduct all duties in a manner which is conducive to the policies and procedures of One GI.
12. Perform other duties as required.
JOB EXPOSURE DETERMINATION: Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a laboratory environment.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma.
- AAS degree in a biological science or equivalent and certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology.
- Three years experience as a histotechnologist.
- Good communication skills adequate for interoffice and customer communication.
- Computer skills necessary.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Does not supervise any employees. Reports to the ASC Supervisor. Works cooperatively with co-workers and physicians. Presents a friendly, courteous and helpful manner in all interactions.
