ONeill Contractors is seeking an experienced Field Manager to serve as Superintendent and Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) for a critical electrical infrastructure project at the Northport VA Medical Center on Long Island, New York. This facility serves the largest regional veteran population in the United States, providing medical, surgical, psychiatric, and skilled nursing care. The successful candidate will work alongside our onsite Quality Control Manager to independently supervise trade contractors, manage complex phasing requirements to maintain hospital operations, and coordinate extensively with utility providers and facility personnel. This position requires on-site presence daily and serves as the primary field representative for ONeill Contractors on this project. PROJECT SCOPE This project involves replacing the primary electrical distribution system for the entire VA campus. Work must be carefully phased to maintain continuous power to all critical hospital functions. New ConstructionSwitchgear building with HVAC systemsElectrical Systems15 kV main switchgear installation and underground ductbank distributionInfrastructureElectrical feeders and fiber optic cabling to existing campus buildingsSite WorkRoads, walkways, grading, drainage, and utility alterationsDemolitionRemoval of two existing 15 kV switchgears and enclosuresCoordinationPhased transfer of electrical functions; coordination with utility providers and CHP plant KEY RESPONSIBILITIESThe fundamental duties of the position are as follows: Report to the Project Manager and carry out their directives with respect to field operations.Understand, review, and manage project plans, specifications, and manufacturer's data and execute project based upon said documentation.Coordinate and schedule subcontractors to meet all established milestones. Determine whether subcontractors are providing sufficient workforce and hours of work to achieve productivity commitments.Monitor actual versus required performance by all parties; working to bring deviating performances back in line, and holding subcontractors accountable for proving adequate workforce and supplies of materials to complete their scope of work per the construction schedule.Record attendance and minutes for each meeting presided over. Upload record files to the project folder on the drive and distribute documents via email to necessary stakeholders.Identify and remedy non-compliance with all safety, health, and environmental quality standards.Maintain open communication channels with customer and all stake holders.Supervise self-performance work, ensuring it meets company standards and contract requirements.Promptly respond to project ad-hoc needs.Ensure on-site compliance with project procedures, safety requirements, work rules and company policies, and enforce safety policies and procedures.Report to the Project Manager and execute directives for all field operationsManage complex phasing sequences to transfer electrical loads while maintaining continuous hospital operationsCoordinate with VA facility engineers, utility providers, and Combined Heat & Power (CHP) plant operatorsSupervise electrical, civil, and general trade contractors; ensure adequate workforce and productivityReview and manage project plans, specifications, and manufacturer data for 15 kV switchgear and related systemsImplement and enforce the Site Safety & Health Plan; conduct daily safety briefings and inspectionsMonitor schedule performance and hold subcontractors accountable to milestone commitmentsMaintain Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) protocols and patient safety requirementsDocument daily activities, meeting minutes, and safety records; distribute to stakeholdersEnsure compliance with VA construction standards and all applicable codes REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONSOSHA 30-Hour Construction SafetyEM 385-1-1 40-Hour Safety TrainingUSACE Construction Quality Management (CQM)First Aid and CPR QUALIFICATIONS4 years of experience as Superintendent, QCM, or SSHO on FEDERAL construction projects valued at $5-$10M or greaterSignificant/Competent experience with medium and high voltage electrical underground and switchgear installations.Strong technical and communication skillsExcellent organizational skillsExcellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing needsAbility to work in a team environmentAbility to collaborate on a daily basis with the project teamProficient in Microsoft OfficeKnowledge of suite of construction software tools, including scheduling softwareConstruction-document and drawing literate, with knowledge of all phases of constructionExperience and proficiency in multiple divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost controlStrong knowledge and appreciation of construction safety processes and ability to enforce the project safety planAbility to create an environment where “safety first” is the culture and all trades people work with an incident and injury free attitudeProven ability to manage phased construction in occupied/operational facilitiesExperience coordinating utility shutdowns and transfers with facility operationsStrong knowledge of EM 385-1-1 safety requirements and ability to enforce the project safety planExcellent communication skills for daily coordination with VA personnel and stakeholdersAbility to create a "safety first" culture where all trades work incident and injury free Company DescriptionONeill Contractors is a Construction Manager and Design-Build GC focused exclusively on providing construction services to the U.S. Federal Government. Salary : $110,000 - $130,000
