Unarmed School Security Guard
Position Summary
We are seeking a professional, vigilant, and community-oriented Unarmed School Security Guard to join our school safety team. This role plays a critical part in supporting the school’s mission of providing a safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment for all students, staff, and visitors. The Unarmed School Security Guard will work collaboratively with the school’s Armed Law Enforcement Officer (School Resource Officer - SRO) to deter misconduct, monitor campus activity, respond to incidents, and build positive relationships with the school community.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Monitoring & Presence*
- Patrol school grounds, entryways, hallways, parking lots, and perimeters during school hours and special events.
- Maintain a visible and approachable presence to deter unsafe behaviors and build trust with students and staff.
- Monitor and control access to the campus, ensuring all visitors are properly identified and registered.
- Collaboration with Law Enforcement*
- Work in close coordination with the Armed SRO to support incident response, student interventions, and investigations.
- Serve as a first observer and reporter, promptly communicating any suspicious behavior or threats to the SRO and school administrators
- Assist with implementing emergency preparedness drills and real-time response actions (e.g., lockdowns, evacuations).
- Student Engagement & Support
- Foster positive relationships with students while promoting safe behaviors and conflict resolution.
- Support the enforcement of school rules, de-escalating situations as necessary with professionalism and sensitivity.
- Help supervise arrival/dismissal, lunch periods, and high-traffic transition times.
- Incident Documentation*
- Accurately complete daily activity logs, incident reports, and other required documentation.
- Use radio communication to stay in contact with other security personnel and administrative staff.
- General Duties*
- Respond to alarms and assist in assessing and managing minor disruptions, injuries, or emergencies.
- Assist with traffic and pedestrian safety around school grounds.
- Provide security coverage for school events as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Prior experience in school security, public safety, military, or customer-facing roles (preferred)
- Ability to work in partnership with law enforcement and school staff
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with youth in a calm, respectful, and supportive manner
- Must pass a background and drug test.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods
- Able to respond quickly to emergency situations
- May be required to lift or move objects up to 25 lbs.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
