KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong instructional background.
- Knowledge of legal, financial, and organizational requirements.
- Technologically proficient with ability to lead staff and students in this area.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to assist teachers with planning classroom instruction.
- Knowledge of employee evaluation standards and processes.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Valid North Carolina principal's license required.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of successful experience in a public education setting.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months (Part-Time)
SALARY: State Salary Schedule for Assistant Principals
FLSA Status: Exempt
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the evaluation of the school's instructional program and the observation and evaluation of staff.
- Implement clearly defined disciplinary procedures and promote positive student behavior.
- Assist in supervising and maintaining auxiliary services and use community resources to supplement the school program.
- Assist in the development and coordination of school schedules and co-curricular programs.
- Promote and maintain open communications among staff, students, and parents.
- Promote and respect dignity and worth of all.
- Assist in the completion of records and reports and in the supervision and inventory of necessary supplies, textbooks, equipment, and materials.
- Assist the principal in the general administration of the school and serve as principal in his/her absence.
- Coordinate school bus transportation.
- Serve as coordinator of the school’s assessment and accountability program.
- Maintain the safety and security of students, staff and visitors.
- Serve as the school district representative in Individual Education Plan meetings and processes.
- Attend and monitor at all school events, providing supervision and organization.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the principal.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations.
- Ability to be physically active, which includes, but is not limited to, standing, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, sitting, and walking, including repetitive motions.
- Ability to stand in excess of 6 hours.
- Ability to physically monitor a large campus environment.
- Must be able to visually, auditorily, and physically monitor student performance and conduct.
- Ability to physically restrain students, if necessary, to maintain student safety.
- Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Must be able to facilitate the evacuation of students during emergency situations and/or drills.
- Must be able to tolerate a noisy, busy work environment with occasional very loud noises.
- Must be able to drive to a variety of school sites.
