What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Assistant position at Oral Surgical Associates?
Primary Responsibilities
Responsible for assisting the doctor in clinical treatment of patients.
Specific Duties
- Show care and concern, and help patients feel comfortable
- Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures
- Monitor patients arrival time
- Greet patients
- Escort patients to treatment room
- Obtain and review health histories according to office protocol
- Do not leave your patient unattended in the chair
- Anticipate and assist doctor's needs at all times
- Monitor the patient's vital signs during the surgery
- Perform clinical procedures and expanded functions as directed by the doctor
- Ensure all patients' questions are answered thoroughly before they leave
- Give patient instruction and demonstrate, when necessary
- Monitor patient flow
- Escort patients from the treatment room to recovery or the car as needed
Treatment Room Management and Sterilization
- Check to ensure that dental units are ready, stocked, and cleaned at all times
- Oversee cleanliness of the treatment room according to sterilization procedures
- Sterilize all instruments and handpieces according to OSHA regulations
- Organize trays, instruments, and treatment room drawers at all times
- Send out all laboratory cases, promptly
- Follow laboratory procedures according to office protocol
Records Management
- See that records are stored securely and handled in compliance with legal requirements, including HIPAA privacy and security regulations if applicable
- Accurately file patient information according to office protocol
- Update electronic health records
Inventory Management
- Help in other areas of the office when necessary (other assistants, surgical supplies etc.)
- Be an active participant in staff meetings
- Promote team concept by interacting with others in the office in a respectable manner
**Other duties may be assigned to the above list at anytime to help with the function of the office.
Personnel Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of Surgical Tech program or dental assisting experience preferred but not required
- Compliance with state dental practice requirements (i.e., X-ray requirements, OSHA training)
- Excellent computer skills and experience with EMR (electronic medical records).
- Medical terminology a plus
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Professional demeanor
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful work environment
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
