SPED IA/ ParaProfessional
Responsibilities:
- Will work under the supervision of the Special Education Director and Ed. Specialist
- Must be comfortable with different job responsibilities such as:
- Working as a one-on-one for students with disabilities who may require behavior intervention, support with initiation of tasks inside the classroom, reinforcing learning concepts, and assisting/modeling life skills
- Pushing into classrooms to support multiple students with IEPs who have learning disabilities and/or behavioral difficulties
- Supporting small group pull out services provided by service providers (Ed. Specialist, Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, APE, Physical Therapist, etc.)
This Role will include:
- Supporting students with disabilities who have Individualized Education Plans in various Educational Settings (Disabilities can range from Mild-Severe (Learning Disability- ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism, Developmental disabilities- Down Syndrome, Orthopedic Impairment/ Health Needs, Traumatic Brain Injury, etc)
- Assisting in behavior management when necessary -must be comfortable with managing a variety of maladaptive behaviors and implementing behavior strategies- includes following Behavior Intervention Plans and utilizing ABA strategies with the support and training of Ed. Specialist, SPED Director, School Psychologist, and BCBA
- Attend weekly team meetings and attend school Professional Developments (only those that are mandatory)
- Taking notes, conducting observations, and collecting data on students, to support the Ed. Specialist with planning instruction and revising behavior plan
- Willing to toilet and assist with bathroom needs (if needed)
- Show dedication to their work and positive work ethic
Qualities:
- Show qualities such as being organized, proactive, independent, quick to respond/ active with responses, patient, willing to ask questions/ seek help and flexible with changes
- Show commitment, consistency, and reliability with attendance- Required to arrive at work with punctuality and remain the entire scheduled time (lack of attendance with scheduled work hours could risk being placed on a 30-day performance improvement plan; limited improvement with attendance can leading to dismissal)
- Show professionalism- maintaining confidentiality
- Be open to learning new skills and strategies/ willingness to receive criticism and apply feedback.
- Have strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate with the team
Requirements:
- Experience: minimum of 1 year working with individuals with disabilities such as- working as an ABA therapist or Behavioral Interventionist, working as Special Education Aide/ Paraprofessional, or working as a Caregiver for an individual with Special Needs
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Some college- hold a minimum of an Associates Degree and/OR received a certification as a ParaProfessional/ ParaEducator or certification of completion as a BT or BI
Job Type: Part-time
Starting Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
