What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supply Assistant Squad Leader (ASL) position at Orange County Sheriff's Office?
Salary Range: $45,344/yr - $69,659/yr. Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, and/or experience.
Assists with supply warehouse duties to include allocation, storage, and disposal of agency property and may directly supervise and train Material Control and Supply personnel. #oj
Minimum Requirements:
- At least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
- U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
- Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
- No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
- Associate’s Degree (A.A. or A.S.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school AND one (1) year related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Related experience to include the following: customer service, inventory management, logistics, or property accounting.
- The following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
- Two (2) years of direct experience for an Associate Degree
- Must have valid Florida driver’s license.
- Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if assignment includes driving agency vehicle. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency biennial driver’s physical exam.
- Must successfully complete Forklift Certification provided through the agency within six (6) months of employment.
- Must successfully complete Criminal Justice Information System Level II Certification within six (6) months of employment.
- Ability to audit material, equipment, and supplies in the warehouse. Assist supply clerks with the issuance and delivery of requested materials.
- Ability to conduct annual inventory checks of warehouse items, to include agency purchased radios.
- Ability to compile and maintain records concerning quantity, type, and value of agency material, equipment, merchandise, and supplies.
- Ability to provide logistical support for the storage and procurement of agency items stored within the warehouse. Identify available storage areas for use by other agency departments.
- Ability to identify and dispose of surplus agency property while following standard protocols.
- Ability to verify proper quantities of agency printed material, to include forms, pamphlets, business cards, and signs. Coordinate with Research and Development to verify proper artwork is used. Inventory and order copy paper for agency wide use.
- Ability to maintain proper levels of agency personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency supplies to include gloves, masks, disinfectant materials, palletized water, and AED supplies. Properly store and issue Naloxone.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management, agency personnel, and the public.
- Must have intermediate computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
- Must have the ability to learn specialized department software and its applications.
- Must have the ability to follow statutory and safety guidelines.
- Must possess knowledge of and have the ability to learn, maintain, understand, express, and apply relevant Florida State Statutes regarding personal property, as well as agency policies and procedures.
- Must have the ability to safely handle weapons including firearms, chemical weapons, and electronic control devices.
- Must have strong customer service skills, both in person and over the phone.
- Must have the ability to maintain working relationships with vendors, delivery persons, the public, and agency personnel.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Ability to assist the Supply Supervisor and act as supervisor as needed
- Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include preparing work schedules; training employees; assisting with work assignments; reviewing case files for administrative and technical errors; providing input for performance evaluations; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Some positions, depending on the responsibilities, may require the candidate to successfully pass a physical or other selection processes when needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and risk of electrical shock, and vibration. Work is generally performed in a standard office setting, warehouse, loading dock, and command posts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
