Orchard Park Hospital is a 30 bed acute, in-patient psychiatric hospital for youth ages 5-17. We are looking for Mental Health Technicians that will provide warmhearted, high-quality care to promote mental health, wellness and safety of all patients.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with the admission process by completing orientation of the patient to the unit, securing patient valuables/personal belongings.
- Making pertinent observations throughout the shift about the patient’s condition such as comfort and hygiene needs, level of cognition, appetite, skin color/integrity, and self-help ability.
- Reports observations, finding and changes in patient’s condition to the Registered Nurse and other team members in a timely manner.
- Responds to patient’s requests for assistance and determines patient’s needs/problems.
- Recognizes signs of emergency situations such as cardiopulmonary distress/arrest and patient falls and responds appropriately.
- Discusses changes in the patient’s condition with the Registered Nurse and adjusts the plan of care accordingly.
- Contributes verbally to the patient’s plan of care based on interactions with the patient and family.
- Organizing work effectively and sets appropriate priorities in fulfilling work assignments.
- Utilizing problem solving process and good judgment in making decisions about patient care.
- Initiating the plan of care and tasks as assigned.
- Demonstrating adherence of patient safety goals.
- Assisting with management of aggressive patients.
- Assisting in monitoring and/or care of patients who require close observation (suicidal/elopement risk, patients in restraints and/or seclusion).
- Supervising patients in the care of clothing, personal property and room.
- Assisting in setting and maintaining limits of patient’s behavior.
- Assisting patients in therapeutic assignment by giving guidance as appropriate.
- Checking all areas of the until for cleanliness, neatness and presence of contraband and reports safety problems and equipment malfunctions promptly.
- Performing/assisting in room searches for contraband according to hospital policy and patient rights.
- Informing the Registered Nurse of the patient’s response to nursing interventions, procedure and treatments done to the patient by self or others.
- Reporting changes in patient’s condition and assisting in Charting/Documenting.
- Communicating to the patient and family in a respectful and caring manner including explanation of care and procedures prior to implementing.
- Responding appropriately to emergency/information calls.
Candidates must have a High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Must possess a valid Driver’s license.
Must be at least 20 years of age, in accordance with WV DHHR licensing regulations for the facility.
Must meet the hiring requirements of the WV DHHR WV CARES unit regarding criminal background checks.
Ability to meet the hiring requirement for Orchard Park Hospital, LLC, including pre-employment physical examination, Tuberculosis test, and drug test.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $14.50 - $16.00 per hour
