Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) has 24-hour accountability and supports the Director of Nursing (DON) with the delivery of efficient and effective nursing care while achieving positive clinical outcomes, and patient/family and employee satisfaction.
The ADON serves as a clinical operational liaison between the units and the Director of Nursing. He/she is responsible for the daily clinical operations of the Nursing Units including ensuring compliance with Recover-Care policies and procedures, practice standards and regulations. Additionally, he/she is responsible for facilitating the implementation of the care delivery model and processes, mentoring staff, coordination and communication with other departments, and ensuring patient and family satisfaction. In the absence of the DON, the ADON assumes the duties and responsibilities of the DON.
Experience/Skills:
- A minimum of three years full-time or equivalent clinical experience is required and a minimum of two years of clinical experience in long-term care nursing with one year in a management/administrative or supervisory capacity is preferred
- This position requires that the employee can read, write, speak and understand the spoken English language to ensure the safety and well-being of our patients and visitors at the work site when responding to their medical and physical needs.

Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, college or university with a current RN or LPN licensure by the State Board of Nursing.
Responsibilities:
Administrative:
- Reviews and evaluates the performance of nursing staff as well as counsels staff per established company personnel policy;
- Provides direction to nurse management regarding Individual Performance Improvement Plans, problem resolution, and disciplinary actions
- Collaborates and coordinates with other departments to provide timely effective care consistent with individuals’ needs, choices and preferences
- Ensures there is a safe, coordinated and thorough discharge planning process in place
- Promotes a culture of safety to ensure a healthy practice and living environment;
- Participates in Center meetings such as Utilization Management, Customer at Risk, Quality Improvement, etc.
Clinical Leadership:
- Works with the DON to effectively plan, organize, direct and implement a comprehensive center-wide nursing program
- Creates an environment that is respectful, team oriented and responsive to the concerns of staff, patients and families
- Completes daily rounds on the units to observe patients and to determine if nursing needs are being met
- Provides patient care when required
- Monitors nursing care to ensure positive clinical outcomes
- Encourages communication between licensed nursing staff and CNAs during and between shifts
- Reviews prospective admissions in relation to existing nursing capabilities and ensures readiness to treat
- Supports the DON in employing a strong Quality Improvement (QI) process for the nursing department and participates on the QI Committee
