POSITION SUMMARY: According to established procedures, leads the operations of the Centralized Communications department, directs the workflow of the unit and is responsible for coordinating and leading the work of the Centralized Information Specialists. Serves as a resource and recognized expert for all aspects of non-clinical call management and daily departmental operations. Assists with personnel functions for assigned staff including hiring, orientation, supervision and input on evaluations and positive discipline.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • High school diploma or equivalent required. • Ability to read, write and communicate in order to maintain accurate records and logs of calls made, patient admissions and transfers. • Approximately twenty-four months on the job experience or equivalent experience necessary in order to learn to operate paging, public address, ProNet nurse call system, telephone system, emergency procedures, code systems, Medical Center extensions, departments, names of key Medical Center physicians/personnel and Medical Center policies and procedures. • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with a wide variety of Medical Center personnel, patients, physicians and outside callers when gathering and exchanging approved information. • Ability to concentrate and attention to detail when answering, transferring and relaying incoming phone calls, and maintaining records. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to answer telephones, exchange information and communicate clearly and tactfully. • Computer knowledge, i.e. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Outlook, SmartWeb, etc. • Must be able to type 45 wpm.
