Overview:
POSITION SUMMARY: The Behavioral Health Coordinator services patients of all ages who are admitted to the Emergency Department or the Medical Center and are experiencing acute psychiatric problems. Symptoms can include: psychiatric problems, including suicidal thoughts/actions; mood disorders, anxiety disorders, self-inflicted wounds and other disorders. Provides patient assessment, crisis intervention and stabilization, psychiatric consultation and coordination/collaboration with on-call psychiatrist(s) and/or ED physicians to assure appropriate referrals and resources, which can be done in person or via tele-health (Center for Health). Will participate in unit specific committees and provide in-house education as needed. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages and needs of the patients served.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors Degree in counseling, psychiatric nursing, social work or other behavioral health related field. Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in a behavioral health or psychiatric related field required in order to gain an understanding of behavioral health disorders and with an emphasiss on assessment, counseling and crisis intervention. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external customers including professional staff, support service personnel, external office personnel, and third party payers. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Masters Degree in counseling, psychiatric nursing, social work or other behavioral health related field.
