What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grounds & Facilities Technician (Full-Time) position at Oswegoland Park District?
Job Overview:
Under the direction of the Parks Supervisor and the Fleet & Special Projects Supervisor, the Grounds and Facilities Technician performs the day to day functions of the Parks and Planning Department. This position may assist with supervision of part-time and seasonal staff.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with the implementation of the grounds care programs and projects
- Works to ensure equipment is in safe and proper working order
- Performs playground equipment repairs
- Operates equipment including: mowers, skid steers, combination backhoe, chainsaws, and various power tools
- Ensures the correct use of standard practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment in park maintenance.
- Supports other Departments’ programs and needs. Including, but not limited to: field maintenance, field set-up, special event set-up, waste removal, special projects, etc.
- Maintains communication with, but not limited to staff, volunteers, the public and community officials.
- Other duties as assigned
Education, Experience & Training:
- High School diploma or GED with 2 or more years’ work experience and knowledge in one or more of the following fields preferred: mechanical repair, heavy equipment operation, carpentry, plumbing, welding, electrical, landscape maintenance
- Must have extensive mechanical knowledge of light duty equipment, small motors and power tools
- Must have or be willing to obtain CPSI (Certified Playground Safety Inspector) within one year of hire
- Must have extensive knowledge of landscape and grounds maintenance, tools, equipment, and techniques
- Must be able to read, write, and understand English, bi-lingual preferred
Skills and Qualifications:
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Detail oriented and accurate
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Must have valid Illinois state driver’s license
- Be able to obtain and maintain an Illinois Pesticide Operators license
- Ability to obtain and maintain current CPR and AED certification
- Understand and exhibit behavior consistent with the stated values of the District
Hours:
40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Evening and weekends hours will be required based on the District’s operational needs.
Salary : $41,600
