Position Purpose/Summary

Out of the Cold, is a community-supported organization that answers the call to serve those experiencing homelessness in our community by providing shelter, food, and support services during the transition to permanent housing.

This position will advocate for shelter guests through basic needs management. The case manager is also responsible for supporting operations of the day shelter and providing innovative approaches to support.

Requirements:

  • A degree in social work or a closely related field is preferred or one year of case work experience is preferred. Sensitivity to socially and culturally distinct groups and issues is required. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as fluency in basic computer programs, are necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

On site coordination of Resource Center/Day Shelter—

  • Provide general upkeep and organization of the day shelter.
  • Procure and manage basic need supplies for guests.
  • Develop and deliver innovative programming for guests.
  • Assist with special programs, operations and administration as able.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with caseload

Guest Services—

  • Conduct guest intake interviews and identify. needs and goals.
  • Help guests apply for and access state IDs, birth certificates, assistance, etc.
  • Maintain guest files relevant to direct services and housing resources.
  • Address client needs in a timely manner.
  • Compile networking/systems advocacy and maintain current log of services, contact persons, qualifications, etc. for the purpose of appropriate referrals.
  • Manage and update guest data.
  • Answer the guest registration and on-call phone.
  • Meet expected services deliverables and meet established deadlines.
  • Complete all internal paperwork for guest services in a timely manner and assure accuracy of paperwork.
  • Acquire appropriate approval for all financial assistance.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with other area service providers.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of client information in compliance with Pennsylvania law.
  • Respect OOTC policies and maintain appropriate boundaries with guests.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and staff development.
  • Maintain expected office hours and workdays.
  • Seek out training opportunities and professional development.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and participate in self-care opportunities offered by OOTC.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift and carry up to 15 pounds, unsupervised
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work with exposure to noise, verbal or physical conflict, heat, cold, odor, infectious disease

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour

  • Weekends as needed
