JOB TITLE: Costume Shop Assistant
REPORTS TO: Costume Shop Manager
TERM: Full-time / Non-exempt
COMPENSATION: $20.00 - $24.50/hour

SUMMARY
The Costume Shop Assistant provides office and workroom support to the Costume Shop Manager as well as the Costume Shop and Wardrobe staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Purchase shop materials and supplies, researching vendors to find appropriate quality; to meet production deadlines. Maintain stock inventory including fabrics, notions, and other materials on an as-needed basis.
- Establish and maintain good relationships with all vendors. Organize and maintain vendor files including swatches, samples, catalogues, and digital files.
- Provide administrative support to Costume Shop Manager and workroom team by coordinating and posting calendars, daily fitting schedules, casting updates, etc.
- Maintain office and workroom equipment records; schedule equipment service as needed.
- Maintain digital financial records for all department purchases. Organize and balance receipts and petty cash. Process payroll.
- Create and maintain ballet ‘bibles’, and maintain photographic records and archives.
- Assist in workroom on an ‘as needed’ basis. Responsibilities may include: hand and machine stitching, note-taking for fittings and measurements, taking and organizing fitting photos, costume display planning and execution.
- Work with Costume Shop Manager and Wardrobe team to maintain costume storage and update costume inventory database.
- Work with Costume Shop Manager and Wardrobe team to provide costume assignments, dressing notes, and other pertinent information to Wardrobe staff for performance runs.
- Work with Wardrobe staff to pack and unpack costumes for transport between storage, costume shop, theater, and out on rental.
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all PNB employees and vendors as well as visitors to the department.
- Attend dress rehearsals in theater house and backstage as needed through opening day and be a liaison/support between the costume shop and wardrobe teams.

- Provide regular and ongoing feedback to Costume Shop Manager regarding all areas of assigned responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of two years working in ballet or theatre costume shops or comparable experience; some bookkeeping experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, diplomacy and ability to work with a team of wide-ranging personalities.
- Demonstrated skill regarding attention to detail including a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to organize and prioritize a wide variety of projects and meet all established deadlines.
- Ability to perform well under pressure. Flexibility to function with sometimes changing priorities and schedules.
- Self-driven with ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must maintain high personal standards including punctuality and reliability.
- Typing and computer skills; Knowledge of PC’s and MSOffice.
- Knowledge of fabrics and notions. Legible handwriting. Must have a current, valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

- May require walking primarily on a level surface for intermittent periods throughout the day.
- Reaching above shoulder height, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the work day. Proper lifting techniques required.
- Must be able to lift and move 25 pounds from one position to another, kneel, ascend and descend a ladder/staircase.
- When working in McCaw Hall on promotional activities, physical demands include walking on level surfaces, light lifting up/down stairs
Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
