Safety and Food Coordinator
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Safety and Food Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the implementation and maintenance of safety and food quality standards within the manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, SQF certification standards, and company policies, aiming to maintain a safe workplace and high-quality food production standards.
Essential Functions/Skills

- Develop and deliver training programs on safety practices, food safety, and hygiene, emphasizing SQF standards, to employees at all levels.
- Stay updated with the latest regulations, industry’s best practices, and SQF certification requirements to ensure ongoing compliance and improvement.
- Mentor and support staff in understanding and implementing safety and food safety protocols, with a focus on SQF certification maintenance.
- Lead investigations into safety and food safety incidents, ensuring thorough documentation and reporting, with a focus on SQF compliance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and innovative solutions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety and food packaging quality, ensuring alignment with SQF certification goals.
- Ensure compliance with national (third party audits), (SQF), and regulatory (FDA) standards through implementation and enforcement of policy and procedure
- Ensure tests and procedures are properly understood, carried out and evaluated and that product modifications are investigated if necessary

Qualifications
Work Environment
This job is operated in an office environment with the ability to go into the production area as needed. This would include the ability to wear the required PPE such as hearing protection and eye protection, as needed.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Other Duties
This is a full-time position with minimal flexibility in work schedules/hours, but the employee should generally be available during the “core” work hours and for 8 or 10 hour shifts and must agree to variation in work schedules/hours, all duties as assigned, and all overtime. Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field recommended but not required.
- Equivalent training, certifications, or experience for listed competencies
- 3 or more years’ experience in similar or related position(s)
- Knowledge of safety regulations (e.g., OSHA) and food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, FSMA, cGMP), with specific experience in maintaining SQF certification are helpful.
- Excellent communication and training skills.
- Knowledge of working in a Quality Assurance environment and Document control
