Disability Services Specialist, Office of Academic and Accessibility Resources

TYPE: Full-time, Exempt
LOCATION: West Palm Beach Campus

SUMMARY: Oversees the management of disability services accommodations through the application and interpretation of ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act; communicates with faculty and staff regarding policies and guidelines as it relates to disability services; provides oversight of the Academic Testing Center.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engages with students and parents to review accommodation requests.
  • Determines and grants reasonable accommodations.
  • Monitors, adjusts, and evaluates the accommodation process to ensure compliance with the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Oversees the Testing Center Coordinator and Academic Testing Center operations.
  • Communicates effectively with faculty members regarding accommodations.
  • Prepares reports as requested including, but not limited to weekly, monthly, semester, and yearly qualitative and quantitative reports.
  • Supports relationships and collaborates with campus partners (Academic Affairs, Residence Life and Housing, Dining, Auxiliary Services, Facilities, ITS, and Human Resources) on accommodation requests/approvals to provide an accessible University experience.
  • Communicates registered dietary needs to Sailfish Dining.
  • Prepares and conducts informational presentations for faculty, staff, and student leaders about how to effectively serve students with disabilities.
  • Maintains student profile and records in Medicat.
  • Updates the Disability Services Handbook.
  • Ensures the information on the Accessibility Services pages on myPBA and pba.edu is up to date and accurate.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of government regulations that pertain to students including FERPA, ADA, ADAA, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Ability to interpret confidential reports and other documentation to determine eligibility for accommodations and specific services and implement strategies when consultation or further information is required.
  • Manifests sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities; ability to work strategically by prioritizing competing demands.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to the concerns and needs of a diverse student population.
  • Shows a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and align across a wide variety of people.
  • Gives attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
  • Handles information of sensitive and confidential nature in the utmost professional manner

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Baccalaureate degree required; Master’s degree p-referred. 2 years of ADA and Section 504 experience. Experience with diverse student populations strongly preferred.

Salary : $43,700 - $55,300
