Financial Aid Counselor
SUMMARY: In support of the University’s mission and enrollment objectives, the Financial Aid Counselor assists students and their families throughout the students’ lifecycle at PBA with guidance and answers to their questions related to student scholarships, grants, loans, financial aid applications, verification documents and aid appeals. This role delivers student-focused personal care to each student while executing detailed work responsibilities.
Financial Aid Advising

Provides expert guidance to students and families on financial aid programs, application procedures, and eligibility criteria.

Conducts one-on-one advising sessions to address individual financial situations and assist in developing comprehensive financial plans.

Speaks in a public speaking venue, with a wide variety of employees and constituents of the university, including administrators, staff, students and parents, or prospective students and parents.

Cultivates financial literacy by enhancing students' understanding of budgeting, loan management, and financial responsibility.

Responds promptly to inquiries from students, parents, and colleagues regarding financial aid matters.

Fosters a positive and supportive environment by actively listening to concerns and providing clear and empathetic communication.
Awards Administration

Determines financial aid eligibility and applies aid as directed in accordance with university policies and federal regulations.

Attains, stays informed, and continuously demonstrates expert knowledge of financial aid regulations and compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations and policies.

Exercises professional judgment in accordance with established policies, regulations, and financial aid best practices.
Collaboration

Coordinates and collaborates with university departments, including Admissions, Student Accounts, and the Registrar's office, Student Success, Graduate and Online Enrollment, etc. to ensure a seamless student experience.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.

One plus years of experience in finance, customer service, or related field; higher education experience preferred.

Proven combination of strong analytical skills coupled with superior communication skills, including verbal and written communications, effectively communicating via telephone, email, and internet.

Ability to communicate with external contacts such as loan service providers, the Department of Education and other federal organizations is also a desired ability in this position.

Skilled in working with and assisting students and potential students and must be comfortable working with diverse populations.

Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.

Comfortable working in a technology driven environment.
