Overview
The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for building positive working relationships by servicing business from various sources including members, realtors, builders, appraisers, advertisements, attorneys and other non-traditional sources to provide high quality loans which meet PCFCU policy/procedures and insure compliance with NCUA and Federal regulations.
The Mortgage Loan Officer is expected to provide prompt and quality service to the members of Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union (PCFCU) through accepting and processing loan applications. Equally important is the role of quality control for all branch produced mortgage products and the standardization and organization of those files.
Responsibilities
- Represents PCFCU in the highest ethical manner. Follows credit union policy and government regulations. Promotes and cross-sells credit union services.
- Builds positive working relationships with the above mentioned sources. Establishes and maintains constant contact with appraisers, attorneys and referral network.
- Develops and maintains a high degree of visibility for PCFCU in the marketplace by participating in organizations, such as the Home Builders Association, or Mortgage Brokers of the Midlands
- Processes branch produced mortgage files. Enforces quality control standards, recommending corrections and following for their completion. Documents insurance confirmation and maintains a continual follow-up.
- Receives member applications, quotes the rate and points and completes follow-up activities with the registration lock-in. Processing loans to meet selected program standards.
- Responsible for seeing that adequate supplies of all current materials used within the department are on hand and informs designated personnel when purchases or change in forms are necessary.
- Coordinates with processing and closing agents to facilitate a prompt and accurate loan closing; monitors loan status; ensures that complete loan documentation is provided for internal processing.
- Sets realistic expectations of the loan process by explaining credit union policies, procedures, and underwriting requirements; communicates loan status to members.
- Creates a balance between loan production volume and quality; meets credit union standards for accuracy and fall-out.
- Maintains a current policy and procedure book and knowledge of same. Assists in training of new mortgage loan officers or processors as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of all loan policies, and procedures, underwriting requirements, conventional and government loan requirements which is normally acquired through several years of experience in the real estate or mortgage industry. Requires ability to thoroughly comprehend programs and policies and be able to communicate these policies in an understandable language to members, and other credit union leaders.
- Ability to set and reach production goals as required to meet production standards. Assists in annual budget preparation.
- Ability to analyze members' needs and assist in the selection of a loan program to fit their individual needs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills applicable to a sales oriented environment which can be obtained through prior sales experience in a real estate or mortgage environment.
- Ability to qualify for real estate or other licenses such as Direct Endorsed (DE) or Delegated Authority to enable a smoother work flow in Government and Conventional Loans respectively.
- Reading and math skills at an Associate Degree or above. Four year degree preferred.
