Shredder Operator

**Overview**

Seeking a Shredder Operator who has an exceptional ability to focus on the operation from the control room and manage through-put material. This individual must be able to handle emergencies swiftly and calmly while also maintaining communication with the operations and maintenance teams. Operator should have a keen eye for potential dangers and avoiding issues before they start. Must have a self-motivated attitude and thrive in focused, individual work. Must also have an affinity for advanced machinery and automated equipment operation and controls.

**Responsibilities**

· Safely operates shredder

· Complete any documentation such as pre-start checks, in accordance with company requirements and provide to Yard Manager or Supervisor as required

· Report issues to the Yard Manager or Supervisor and make recommendations as required

· Conduct basic fault finding in accordance with basic procedures

· Demonstrate personal responsibility for all Safety, Health, Environment, Community

· Sustainability policies, procedures, and initiatives

· Support measures designed to effectively manage costs and adherence to budgetary requirements

· Support continuous improvement initiatives

· Comply with all company policies, procedures and initiatives relevant to the job

· Support training and performance management initiatives

**Skills/Qualifications**

· Preferably years of experience in operating conveyer-based equipment with high skill

· Preferably previous safety training in commercial/industrial environments

· A minimum of high school education

· Willingness to perform drug screening upon hire

· Willingness to provide references from previous employers/experiences

· Ability to follow instructions and maintain company process/policies

**Physical Requirements**

· Sit and stand for long periods of time

· Working in isolation in the control room

· Able to climb into mobile equipment

Exposure to physical operations in scrap recycling facilities, including walking/climbing in active industrial yards with uneven surfaces in inclement weather
