The Panhandle Health District is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Nurse to support our clinics in the five northern counties. This position will require weekly commutes to outlying clinics. The commute time is included in your workday, and a fleet vehicle is provided. Candidates living in Kootenai, Shoshone, Bonner, Boundary and Benewah counties are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of this role is to provide direct care for clients with acute and chronic conditions. Duties include assessing, diagnosing, planning, and prescribing both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments, along with implementing therapeutic and corrective measures for health promotion and preventive care. Clinical services focus on reproductive health for men and women, immunizations for children, and select vaccines for adults, with potential expansion based on community needs. The AP Nurse is responsible for delivering patient care, performing lab screenings, managing prescriptions, and following up on abnormal test results. The position also involves conducting community outreach to expand clinic services, assessing clients with complex medical conditions, and addressing social or behavioral factors impacting treatment adherence. Additional duties include collaborating on budget development and using local health data to guide health promotion efforts.
Qualifications and Proficiencies:
- Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse (Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nurse Practitioner) by the Idaho Board of Nursing, with a qualifying exam from an accredited graduate program.
- Strong clinical judgment, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a clinical team setting.
- Experience in acute and chronic care, including diagnosing, prescribing, and health promotion.
- Proficient in diagnosing and managing conditions through patient history, exams, and diagnostic tests.
- Skilled in laboratory screenings and prescribing medications per protocols.
- Familiar with CDC and Idaho Immunization Program guidelines and entering vaccine data into automated systems.
- Knowledgeable in chart documentation, electronic health records, and health information laws.
- Understanding of population health, disease prevention, and health service use.
- Knowledgeable in public health nurse practitioner principles.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic health records.
- Understanding of health care systems and client referrals based on program guidelines.
- Familiar with OSHA standards.
- Understanding of federal health contracts and deliverables.
- Public speaking and presentation experience.
- Valid Idaho Driver’s License.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS)/Incident Command System (IS)100, 700 within one (1) month of employment.

Due to the need for all Health Department personnel to respond to public health emergencies, the employee must be assessed for his/her ability to meet the physical demands of performing the following activities:
- Engage in the following movements: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and writing and repetitive motions.
- To move objects, exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly.
- Hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
- Visual ability must be sufficient to read typewritten documents, computer screens, and drive a car
