The primary responsibility of a Paratransit Supervisor I is to provide for the safe and efficient operation of the Berkshire Regional Transit Authority paratransit public bus service. Paratransit Supervisors act as “front-line” customer service representatives of the Company. Supervisors use good judgment, interpersonal communication skills, and workplace knowledge to assist customers with information, assure passenger safety, resolve problems, and ensure employees perform their duties as required. Additionally, Supervisors aid the transit system by operating computer-based communication and vehicle tracking systems. They review all dispatcher scheduling work to confirm compliance with applicable state and federal laws. Supervisors typically work in an office environment.
This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations.
Essential Functions
· Serve as the on-call supervisor for the department.
· Schedule employees to maintain appropriate coverage.
· Conduct new hire and ongoing training, as needed, according to Company policy.
· Document, investigate, and resolve passenger complaints or concerns.
· Document and investigate collisions involving transit vehicles; prepare the proper reports.
· Document, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate personnel.
· Conduct safety performance, schedule adherence, curb checks, and other driver evaluations.
· Count fare revenue and prepare the necessary documentation.
· Relieve and/or otherwise assist employees, as needed.
· Accurately maintain system documentation, such as operator payroll information, work attendance, and employee performance evaluations.
· Explain difficult or complex tasks to employees in a training capacity, as required.
Position Requirements
Applicants must:
· Possess a high school diploma, or graduate equivalency degree (GED).
· Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision for extended periods.
· Demonstrate working knowledge of modern office computer systems, such as the Microsoft Office Suite
· Have reliable transportation both to and from work.
· Have knowledge of, and adhere to, all traffic rules and regulations.
· Pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
· Pass a pre-employment DOT physical.
· Be eligible to be insured under Berkshire Transit Management, Inc.’s vehicle liability insurance policy for duration of employment.
· Be able to work a variety of shift times depending on transit service schedules – including holidays and weekends as needed.
· Pass a pre-employment background screening
· Demonstrate working knowledge of basic math, map reading, and time telling.
· Demonstrate effective verbal communication when interacting with passengers and other employees.
· Complete accurate, legible, and factual written reports.
Licensing
Applicants must have a Class D Driver’s License (regular passenger vehicle); the license must be in good standing.
Qualified applicants must be eligible to be insured under Berkshire Transit Management Inc.’s insurance policy for duration of employment.
Medical Requirements
Paratransit Supervisors must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) medical qualifications and are required to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card as a condition of future and continued employment. All job offers are made contingent upon meeting the DOT medical requirements of the job. This medical exam is provided by a physician registered with the USDOT (U.S. Department of Transportation) at no cost to the applicant. Applicants with a current and valid Medical Card will also be required to complete this exam. BTM does not accept Medical Cards obtained while employed elsewhere. Therefore, all newly hired employees must pass a DOT physical as part of the on-boarding process requirements.

This job position is not unionized; however, this position does supervise unionized employees.
Hours of Work, Scheduling and Rate of Pay
Full-time Paratransit Supervisor I position qualifies as FLSA-exempt, salaried employment. Full-time supervisors, managers, and department directors work at least 40 hours per week. Work shifts may include mornings, evenings, weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed. Salary is competitive. Pay is disbursed weekly.
