Job Summary
Responsible for leading the lab team by providing technical performance, schedule performance, maintaining procedures, training, performance of lab equipment, supporting and improving testing capabilities, interface with customers on technical issues and test preparation.
Essential Job Functions
- Knowledge and experience in chemical testing, mechanical (coupon) testing and thermal testing.
- Knowledge of FTIR, DSC and DMA instruments, physical and wet chemistry, and EM load frames.
- Knowledge of ASTM and MIL HANDBOOK-17 standards for testing.
- Develop and set up laboratory testing and incoming testing to support composite materials delivery and composite component manufacturing.
- Perform all laboratory testing which includes chemical, physical, electrical, and mechanical test methods.
- Performs prepreg lay-up, laminate cure, and test specimen machining and testing.
- Manage and track all testing related to customer qualifications.
- Maintains laboratory chemicals and supplies to adequate levels.
- Keeps work area in a safe and good working order by adhering to laboratory housekeeping, safety and maintenance procedures.
- Review standards, specifications, and procedures for each type of test to be performed.
- Implement QMS to meet AS9011 & NADCAP requirements for mechanical testing.
- Maintain accurate record keeping of testing, documentations per QMS and employee training.
- Train and mentor laboratory staff to ensure all testing is understood and performed with consistency and accuracy.
- Ability to impact and resolve all laboratory related issues.
Education/Experience/Skills Required
- A Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology or related disciplines is preferred or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in manufacturing lab or material testing lab.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
- Accurate computer entry skills.
- Experience working in a chemical environment preferred.
- Experience with AS9100 & NADCAP QMS.
- Computer literate in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.
Physical Requirements
Individual required to be sighted (can be medically corrected), with clear verbal and written communications skills. Job includes lifting of product/supplies ranging from minimal to 50 pounds on an occasional basis. Individual will be required to be mobile, with bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping and crouching.
