What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farmer Education Coordinator position at Pasa Sustainable Agriculture?
Mission: Cultivating environmentally sound, economically viable, community-focused farms and food systems
Position overview: Do you have experience with diversified vegetable production and a passion for supporting other farmers to grow sustainably? We’re seeking a full-time Farmer Education Coordinator to connect with and provide outreach and educational support to graduates of Pasa’s vegetable training programs and to provide education support for our Diversified Vegetable Apprenticeship Program (DVA).
This position will provide post experience support services to graduates of Pasa’s vegetable training programs, especially those in the first ten years after graduation, to address the unique needs of beginning farmers after completing a Pasa training program. Areas of need include: land access, capital access, business development, farm finances, farm transition/succession planning, matriculation from pre-apprenticeship to apprenticeship, and ongoing professional development for new farmers. The particular areas to be addressed will be determined through regular and systematic outreach to program participants and in coordination with program managers. Eventually this role will support graduates from all of Pasa’s training programs, including Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship and Agroforestry Certification.
In addition to the above support services to program graduates, this position will also conduct monthly site visits to farms in Southeast Pennsylvania participating in our Diversified Vegetable Apprenticeship, providing support to apprentices and host farmers in that program.
This is a hybrid position with regular travel (expected 25% travel) to apprenticeship sites throughout Pennsylvania and up to around an hour beyond the state border. There will be some in-office workdays and 2-3 annual multi-day in-person staff retreats. All employees are required to attend our annual Sustainable Agriculture Conference, which takes place each February in Lancaster, PA. The person in this role is required to live in one of the following Pennsylvania counties: Adams, Berks, Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Huntingdon, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, Northumberland, Perry, Philadelphia, Schuylkill, Snyder, Union, York. If hired, employees have three months to relocate. Pasa does not provide relocation support. If you have questions, please inquire. Employees must comply with Pasa’s remote employee policies.
This is a grant-funded position. It is funded by Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry’s PA Smart Apprenticeship Program through December 2026, with the possibility for extension. This role will be supervised by Pasa’s Diversified Vegetable Apprenticeship Program Manager.
