Vacancies:
This is an hourly position for the Language Assessment and Development Department.

Appointed candidate shall provide in-person support at school sites.
Work hours are assigned as needed and are generally during school hours (4-6 hours/day, up to 5 days/week during the school year).
Pay is based on actual hours worked at $17.72/hour.
Anticipated start date is August 2023.

DEFINITION


Under immediate supervision, assists teachers and other certificated personnel in a variety of instructional and non-instructional activities; reads, writes and converses in English and preferably another designated language such as Spanish.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions in this class are established primarily to supplement the instructional program by performing selected instructional tasks and routine non-instructional activities in assignments with students. Depending upon the assignment, incumbents may be required to translate in instructional situations and in parent conferences from English to the designated language.

First Aid and CPR card must be submitted with the online application, OR must be obtained and submitted to Human Resources within 60 calendar days from date of hire.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS

Experience:
Recent paid or volunteer experience involving organized activities with children.
Education:
Graduation from high school or equivalent GED or demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics skills up to or exceeding that required for local high school seniors pursuant to Education Code 51220 (a) and (f).

Special License or Language Skills:

Possession of current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid certificates from approved training program or must obtain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid certificates from approved training program within sixty (60) calendar days from date of hire. Failure to do so, shall result in termination of employment. The ability to read, write and converse in English and another language, such as Spanish, is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities of this class include but are not limited to:
  • Reads, writes and converses in English
  • Provides reinforcement experience for students in reading, mathematics, language arts and other subject areas according to instructions from certificated personnel
  • Assists students requiring individual help
  • Administers, proctors and scores tests including the recording of results
  • Assists teacher(s) in supervising students
  • Assists in maintaining an orderly learning environment
  • Prepares material for classroom use
  • Sets up and dismantles learning apparatus
  • Operates audio-visual equipment and other learning apparatus
  • May perform classroom related clerical activities
  • Performs other related duties as required

  • Perform clerical tasks and work in a structured time frame
  • Understand and work effectively with students in instructional situation
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and others
  • Maintain sensitivity to ethnic, religious, cultural and sexual differences.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees in this classification work primarily indoors, in direct contact with students, the public and other District staff.

APPOINTMENT

Employees who receive a regular appointment to the class must serve a probationary period of one hundred and thirty (130) days of paid service. During this period, an employee must demonstrate an overall satisfactory level of performance; failure to do so shall result in the employee's termination without right of appeal to the Human Resources Office.


Pay is based on actual hours worked.

The current vacancy is an HOURLY position with no rights to permanency.
