The Teacher Assistant at Pathfinder Early Learning Center (ELC) is responsible for implementing classroom lesson plans to provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences for enrolled children. This role involves partnering with families, teachers, and substitutes to follow individualized and multicultural programming within the classroom. The Teacher Assistant ensures adherence to all Indiana Child Care Licensing Guidelines, the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct and Standards, and Paths to Quality Regulations.
Key responsibilities include implementing lesson plans that align with assessment data and developmentally appropriate practices according to NAEYC, FSSA, and Paths to Quality standards. The Teacher Assistant collaborates with parents to provide high-quality early childhood programming and develop a partnership for care. Regular assessments of children’s development are conducted, and findings are shared with families. The Teacher Assistant provides regular opportunities for children to learn and grow through hands-on experiences and activities and follows Indiana Childcare Licensing Guidelines for the responsive physical care of children in classrooms.
The Teacher Assistant implements a regular and predictable schedule of activities for children that align with Indiana Licensing Guidelines and individual child needs. Utilizing the Conscious Discipline Curriculum, the Teacher Assistant provides regular opportunities for children to develop social-emotional skills and mechanisms. This role involves working cooperatively with coworkers to create a positive and predictable learning environment for children, coworkers, and families.
A critical responsibility is to ensure compliance in the classroom with Indiana Childcare Licensing Regulations about health and safety, classroom environment, positive discipline, and required postings. Additionally, the Teacher Assistant is required to maintain 20 hours of annual training related to Early Childhood Development.

Requirements
Preferred Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma/GED and ability to obtain a CDA within four months of hire.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Basic language, written, and computer skills necessary for communication and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to support people with disabilities.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule if needed.
- Ability to speak, hear, and read the English language.
- Essential physical skills – be able to run, squat, stoop/bend, kneel, climb stairs, be able to lift 50 pounds, push and pull against potential resistance; and be able to implement CPR and First Aid when needed.
