What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gallery Officer position at Peabody Essex Museum?
We are seeking a candidate for part-time Gallery Officer. Our professional security staff is responsible for safeguarding and providing assistance to museum visitors and staff within and around the museum complex. In addition, Gallery Officers are responsible for enforcing all museum security policies and procedures in order to protect PEM's notable collections, exhibits, and property. Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, enjoy working with the public and uphold a professional attitude at all times. This is a forward facing role that is encouraged to interact with the public while maintaining security protocols. Demonstrated customer service skills are important to this position. Training and uniforms are provided.
Interest or education in criminal justice, and/or prior security experience or military service strongly preferred. Experience in a museum, cultural institution or non-profit organization is a plus. A valid Massachusetts driver's license is preferred for availability to work at off-site Museum properties on the North Shore. Conversational fluency in a language other than English is a plus. Must be available to work weekend shifts. The hourly range for this role is $19.00 to $19.71 commensurate with experience.
