PeaceHealth is seeking a Sterile Processing Assistant for a Per Diem/Relief, 8 Hour, Variable Shift position.
Job Summary
Continuously exemplifies the mission, values and customer service philosophy of PeaceHealth in job performance and in relationships to others. This position is responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of instruments and supplies.
Essential Functions
- Cleans, decontaminates instrumentation and supplies.
- Collects, disassembles, cleans and disinfects instrumentation used in procedures.
- Reassembles instruments and packages appropriately.
- Operates a variety of disinfecting equipment.
- Monitors and documents sterilization parameters.
- Cleans and maintains department equipment.
- Understands and applies the principles of asepsis in sterile processing work.
- Restocks work areas and delivers instrumentation to appropriate departments.
- Provides excellent customer service and participates in the performance improvement activities.
- Participates in staff education and department meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
- High School Diploma Preferred or equivalent
- Preferred: Previous hospital or patient care experience
- Preferred: Medical terminology
Skills
- Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others. (Required)
- Basic computer skill. (Required)
- Well organized, detailed oriented and self-motivated. (Required)
- Ability to utilize computers for email, training records and completing on-line education. (Required)
- Ability to communicate appropriately with the person served regardless of their age. (Required)
Lifting
- Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
- Child Care Attendant: Ability to move around area with occasional sitting. Lift/carrying: Occasional up to 25 lbs. Push/pull: Occasional up to 50 lbs. force.
- Frequent bending/ kneeling/ squatting/ stooping/ reaching/ grasping.
- Occasional push/pull up to 50 lbs. force.
- Occasional reaching/ bending/ stooping/ squatting/ crouching/ kneeling/ grasping.
- Security: Ability to move around area with occasional sitting. Continuous moving around area. Lifting/carrying: Frequent up to 10 lbs. Occasional up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
- Child Care Attendant: Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
- Exposure to outside temperatures (seasonal).
- Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Security: Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
- Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
