What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Engineer position at Peak?
Peak designs and manufactures custom evaporative cooling systems for commercial HVAC units to improve unit efficiency and reduce the energy used. We are a small company with a lot of potential for growth and are looking to expand our product line to other energy reduction and management products.
The position would entail work in all areas of the engineering department, with a primary focus on Controller development and support (we have sites all over the US).
We are primarily looking for an experienced Computer, Application, or Systems Engineer with 5 years of experience in embedded systems, and application layer development. The position would be in Memphis, TN (Optionally Denver, CO).
Primary job duties will include the following:
- Documenting, mapping, and correcting current controller code (Debian Linux Based Python, Arduino, and C, plus maybe some others).
- Developing new controller code and implementing updated version of python on Yocto Linux Server for next generation controller.
- Directing 3rd Party on hardware and base layer software development of next generation controller.
- Troubleshooting Controllers (remotely and in the field)
- Building/Maintaining Production Databases
- Aiding in Production Equipment Programming.
- Lab and Field Testing of controllers and instruments.
- Developing/Improving Code for quoting, energy analysis, and production document creation
- Research and Development Support (new Board Designs for microcontrollers, research on new sensors, etc).
- Aiding in Dashboard Management.
- Investigating Use of Azure SQL Server for centralized database and possible development
- Creating Instructional Documentation

- Hands-on Learner; satisfied with work both in the field and in the office
- Ability to effectively interact with customers, field staff, management, and office personnel
- Good working knowledge of PCB design and hardware selection.
- Experience with application level programming
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and other Office suite programs
- Good understanding of Thermodynamic/Heat Transfer Processes
- Knowledgeable about circuits and control systems
- Strong analytical skill set
- Ability to read and understand technical documents and diagrams
- Possess strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills

- Proficient with Python and Linux OS.
Travel: 10% of the time (Seasonal- higher during the summer, very little during the winter)
Work from home permitted, office and field work as required.
