Clinical Director, BCBA, SLP, PT, and OT - Role and Responsibilities
The Clinical Director position is a senior leadership position that reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Clinical Director will have expertise in ABA, speech language, occupational therapy, or physical therapy and have worked in a small business and running a small and growing clinic. This role shall have overall responsibility for Therapy operations for the clinical practice. This role shall ensure high-quality, cost-effective delivery of patient care, manage therapy staff, and in collaboration with the CEO develop, implement, and approve the mission and strategic goals for the practice.
The Clinical Director provides management, leadership, and support to the Behavior Health (ABA), Speech Language Pathology, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy team. They ensure the team follows regulatory compliance requirements and standard operating procedures. This position embraces and integrates the company culture and core values into daily practice and is responsible for operational and administrative duties related to clinical practice. This role also supports and assists with marketing, business development, and sales for the services offered by Pediatric Speech Lab.
Technical Performance
- Design, standardize, implement, and maintain therapy (Speech, ABA, OT, PT) policies and procedures that direct the functions of the therapy departments and produce high-quality care for clients, and conform to standards of therapy practice and operational policies while maintaining compliance with federal state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
- Led by the Human Resources (HR) Department, support therapy departments’ staffing, retention, and development and participates in coaching, mentoring discipline, and performance evaluations.
- Conduct hiring manager interviews for Speech Pathologists, BCBAs, RBTs, Physical Therapists, and Occupational Therapists to grow the practice, ensure adequate staffing, and ensure all existing and new client needs are covered.
- Implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives and team incentive programs.
- Plan and monitor social events.
- Oversee and monitor incident reports, including investigation and reporting of findings to the insurance provider(s) and to the CEO.
- Ensure and maintain Speech and ABA billable requirements and monitor utilization rates.
- Develop and implement a marketing strategy to attract new patients and raise awareness of the clinic’s services.
- Identify opportunities for expansion, new services, or partnerships that align with the clinic’s mission and goals.
- Be available for clinical support when needed and periodic emergency phone calls/texts/emails during and outside company hours.
- Development of programs for increase in client care and community involvement.
- Communicate with physician offices, daycares, and schools in developing contracted services for the company.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall effectiveness of the practice.
Customer Experience
- Collaborate with physicians, consultants, community agencies, and institutions to improve the quality of services and resolve identified problems.
- Collaborate with an interdepartmental team to integrate therapy services with the total patient’s health care plan. Participate in all new client decisions and monitor client outcomes.
- Assist with direct client care therapy responsibilities during high-flow work times.
- Provide an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff. Assess the risks for safety and implement appropriate precautions. Comply with appropriate and approved OSHA and Infection Prevention standards.
- Meet with the clinical team weekly to proactively address and resolve any concerns and to review their caseload and logs.
- Provide leadership and guidance to staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Work collaboratively with Human Resources (HR) and the Chief Executive Officer to ensure compliance.
- Develop, implement, and update standard operating procedures to ensure efficient and effective processes for staff, patients, and senior leadership.
Stewardship
- Participate in the development and implementation of the organization’s culture, core values, mission, and strategic goals for the clinical practice for Speech and ABA
- In collaboration with the CEO, prepare a draft annual capital and operating budget for therapy departments. Monitor departments’ expenses against the budget.
- Assist with the development and implementation of specialized patient/client programs.
- Collaborate with the CEO and actively involved in performance improvement process, including data collection and analysis, and process improvement activities.
- Meet with health plan and insurance representatives as needed to foster amiable working relationships.
- Engage in research and development projects to ensure that Pediatric Speech Lab is expanding and incorporating innovative information into our service delivery (e.g., create new data sheets, curriculum, training, services offerings, etc.).
Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in education, psychology, speech language, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or behavior analysis.
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), Physical Therapist, or Occupational Therapist trained, certified, and licensed in Maryland required.
- Five years of direct experience in one of the professional disciplines discussed herein.
- Five years of progressive experience working as a pediatric speech pathologist, behavior team lead (BCBA), or supervisor designing speech or ABA programs for children with autism, as well as training parents and technicians on how to implement these interventions.
- Advance to expert skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and medical software, preferably Fusion Web Clinic.
- A valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, and a clean driving record is essential.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills verbally and in writing.
- High level of emotional intelligence with the ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external customers.
