Peerless Coffee & Tea is looking to hire an energetic team player, comfortable in a multi-tasking environment, a fast learner who TRULY understands the importance of exceptional customer service. A passion for coffee and tea is a must!

We are currently hiring for a Barista to work full time or part time. Currently, our store is staffed Mondays through Fridays from 6:30 am to 4:45 pm. We are seeking a person who enjoys meeting new people, and makes attending to the customer their top priority. Our Baristas create delicious hand-crafted espresso drinks while also assisting customers in their selections of freshly roasted coffee beans and teas.

A third generation, family owned and operated business, Peerless Coffee & Tea is a boutique craft roaster located in the Jack London Square area of Oakland within walking distance of BART. We are a past Roaster of the Year recipient by Roast Magazine!

This Barista’s main responsibilities include working in the Retail Store creating hand crafted espresso drinks while also assisting customers in their selections of freshly roasted coffee beans and teas.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Help to achieve store objectives and daily sales goals by providing a welcoming experience and providing an excellent product.

• Greet and attend to customers in an engaging and timely manner

• Work well with the team to generate excellent customer service. The successful candidate enjoys meeting new people, and makes attending to the customer their top priority.

• Taking and completing orders in a timely fashion while ringing up sales accurately and quickly. Contribute to profitability by following cash register policies and procedures.

• Must be able to handle cash and credit card payments accurately.

• Crafting quality specialty drinks such as espressos and smoothies according to company recipes and customer specifications

• Pack coffee orders verifying freshness and quality.

• Demonstrate, discuss and sell a variety of coffee and tea-related merchandise. Be knowledgeable in Peerless products and relay that information to customers proactively, introducing and speaking intelligently to customers about our products.

• Must be able to multi-task in a high paced environment with a sense of urgency.

• Tracking inventory of paper goods, dairy products, syrups, pastries, condiments, and other bar necessities. Restocking inventory as necessary.

• Cleaning the coffee bar, seating area, and retail store throughout the day.

• Maintaining all documentation needed such as inventory forms or coffee transfers.

• Perform other duties as required, such as dusting, organizing, setting store displays, maintaining inventory and cleanliness of the store, following through and completing all tasks, and keeping the store fun, upbeat and exciting.

Skills & Qualifications:
- Must have at least six months Barista experience and retail and direct customer contact experience.
- Must be proficient in communicating with customers, processing orders, and completing assigned tasks. A top candidate will have good follow-through and organizational skills.
- Must have the ability to remain positive and keep the energy high and upbeat at all times, but especially in high pressure/ high volume situations.
- Must have HS diploma or GED.
- Must have California Safe Food Handlers Card at time of employment.
