Job Description
Administers basic nursing care for a variety of patients. Utilizes the nursing process to provide care in accordance with the RN scope of practice. Supervises Licensed Practical Nurses and/or other support staff in the delivery of patient care
- Initiates assessment and reassessment based on the patient’s presenting problems/needs in accordance with facility policy and procedures
- Identifies and recognizes abnormal symptoms/changes in patients’ condition and takes appropriate action and/or reports findings to physician.
- Utilizes nursing process for patient care to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate to achieve desired patient outcomes according to the RN scope of practice.
- Develop/review/revise and individualize the plan of care to address the patient's nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcomes.
- Integrates appropriate standards of care into the patient’s plan of care based on the diagnosis and patient-specific needs
- Implements interventions that are consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner
- Assures the plan of care reflects continuing care needs and/or referrals for discharge/transfer.
- Contributes to the discharge planning process by working with the interdisciplinary care team to set patient goals and assist the patient to progress towards a safe discharge plan. Provides discharge education to patients and caregivers.
- Completes care tasks for assigned patients based on nursing process and in accordance with physicians’ orders according to the RN scope of practice. These tasks may include but are not limited to:
- Medication administration
- Wound Care
- ADL assistance
- Patient Education
- Patient Rounding
- Provides supervision and coordinates and delegates patient care tasks to members within the nursing department and interdisciplinary care team as appropriate.
- Completes accurate nursing documentation in the patient medical record in a timely manner in accordance with departmental policies.
- Demonstrates proficient knowledge of the nursing department technical/clinical skills and equipment. Follows departmental policies and procedures to promote and ensure patient safety.
- Assists with orientation of new department personnel as appropriate and provides feedback to supervisory positions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Hours: 6:00am/pm-6:30pm/am, rotating holidays and weekend, 12 hour shifts
Experience and Skills
Education and/or Experience
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- One (1) to two (2) years' experience preferred
Certificates, Licensure, Registrations
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska or multi state licensure in a nurse licensure compact state
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
All certificates should be obtained within one year of hire or as approved by manager
