The Pender County Health Department is a tax supported health agency is concerned with all the health problems affecting the residents of Pender County. The Health Department's director and the local Board of Health are responsible for organizing and administering the Health Department and;

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the first point of contact at the front desk for all patients entering the health department.This position will also serve as backup to the medical records file room.

Receptionist Duties- Providing receptionist duties at the front desk.
- Conduct self in a professional manner, utilizing customer friendly techniques that express care and understanding.
- Obtain accurate information to ensure correct service delivery and billing process.
- Have client sign-in, prepare medical record and route to eligibility or appropriate program.
- Make appointments forth appropriate program.
- Update patient data in the Health Information System (HIS).
- Help Manage Patient Flow To Minimize Patient wait times.
- Serve as back-up to Medical Records to pull and prep patient records and file charts
- Fax Records as instructed.
- Send Reminder Letters To Patients As Directed By Medical staff.
- File lab Inpatient Charts daily.
- Work with healthcare providers to promote health department programs to the community.
- Scan purged medical records for purposes of creating an electronic document that ensures compliance with the Records & Retention Schedule.
- Prepare mail by adding the correct amount of postage.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Billing/Administrative Supervisor or DON as necessary to provide effective public health services.
Visual and mental concentration is 100% of the time spent on data entry since inaccurate information may have a substantial impact on patient care and health department revenue.Dexterity for typing and data entry. Concentration is also required when driving county vehicles.
Experience with computer, telephone, various printers, postage meter, 12-digit calculator, copier,scanning equipment, fax machine, HSIS software, Web-based EHR
Graduation from high school demonstrate possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience;oran equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience with data entry of patient information and specific knowledge of EMR is preferred.
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work frequently sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
