PenFed is hiring an Enterprise Data Steward located at our McLean, Virginia location. The purpose of this position is to support the implementation of Enterprise Data Governance framework across the primary focus areas of metadata, data quality, stewardship, policies, and procedures with minimal supervision. The incumbent will work effectively with cross-functional partners to monitor and assess adherence to data management and governance procedures, evangelizing the importance of good quality data to drive business decisions.
Responsibilities

- Work with business units, data custodians, and other related teams to execute an enterprise-wide data governance, control, and compliance policy.
- Create and manage core metadata by working with business streams to document data dictionaries, relationships, mappings, and data lineage as set forth in standards with a broad Enterprise view. Drives resolution of source, definition, naming, and business rule conflicts among consuming applications and user communities.
- Monitor data quality, identify issues and trends, oversee remediation plans, implement data controls, and manage data quality remediation strategies with key stakeholders.
- Assists in the implementation of data management tools and training for related tools.
- Define and improve processes for managing data along its lifecycle; operationalize data management and governance activities. Focused on sourcing and quality of critical data as well as identification and protection of sensitive data.
- Develop and deliver data governance training as needed to business stewards and other stakeholders.
- Measure program compliance through metrics reporting, ensuring adherence to policies, standards, and principles.
Qualifications
Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
- Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant field
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience.
- Highly motivated with a strong passion for data management, and in-depth experience in data governance, data management frameworks, metadata/master data management, data quality, policy creation, data standards and controls.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially the ability to message in a concise and understandable way.
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders in a large organization.
- Strong knowledge of and experience with databases, reporting and data preparation tools.
- Strong SQL skills, ability to develop complex queries for profiling and data analysis
