Summary
The role of a Loan Officer is to assist members with their consumer and mortgage lending needs, analyzing loan requests, and making credit decisions based on lending policy. Responsible for performing a broad variety of member services such as opening and closing accounts, renewing certificate accounts, opening, and closing IRA accounts, and loan interviewing. Assisting members with accounting and checking account problems. Answers member questions regarding Credit Union services and provides and performs a variety of account maintenance. Cross sells services and performs related receptionist functions as required. Assists or refers members with questions or problems that arise. Answers the phone and responds to messages or correspondence. Provides necessary backup to Escrow Department.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Interviews loan applicants to develop information concerning their loan needs, earnings, and financial condition. Explains loan programs to members, evaluates their needs and recommends loan options. Responsible for performing a broad variety of member services such as opening and closing accounts, renewing certificate accounts, opening, and closing IRA accounts, and loan interviewing. Analyzes current financial position of members to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money. Keeps informed of current trends in consumer credit. Prepares and/or reviews all loan documents for completeness and accuracy. Establishes the terms and conditions of an approved loan and reviews them with the member. Assists the Escrow Department with mortgage servicing needs and other tasks as assigned. Authorize release of collateral on existing loans, changes in loan terms, waivers of payments, due date change, etc. and perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
Experience - Three years to five years of similar or related experience.
Education - (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
Interpersonal Skills - Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
Other Skills - Must be accurate with numbers, managing files and records, and other loan office procedures and terminology. Ability to operate general office equipment, such as, computers, calculators, copiers, scanners, and possess computer keyboarding skills. Has a general understanding of Credit Union operations. Maintains confidentiality related to Credit Union operations and work-related information. Must have good communication skills.
Physical requirements - Sedentary work; must be able to sit for long periods of time in a day (up to 9 hours), possess hand, wrist, and finger dexterity to use keyboard, phone, and calculator in a repetitive manner. Must have the ability to view a computer monitor throughout your scheduled time.
Availability - Must be available to work from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. M-F and Sat. and work a flexible schedule. May be required to work at other branches and have the ability to travel to and from those branches.
